In 1886, Captain James Young bought land on the newly-opened area of Lunenburg known as The Moyle Estate, and built a house at 196 Pelham, the first house just outside Old Town limits. The house was then sold to Thomas Walters, the blacksmith who owned the building below him, which is now Ironworks Distillery. In 1900, Capt. Young bought another lot from James Hirtle for $600 and by 1906 had built this impressive house to accommodate his growing family and better suit the style of the age. In 1914, the house sold to Clarence Corkum, a mariner, for $2,025 and is described in the registered deed as "the residence or homestead property of James Young, deceased.” The house, though once converted to two apartments, remained a private residence until becoming a Bed & Breakfast in 1994.
